ABOUT THE SCIENTIST

Studying the universe at its extremes.

Onic Islam Shuvo is an astrophysics researcher whose work focuses on active galaxies and the relativistic jets associated with supermassive black holes.

His research uses observations across the electromagnetic spectrum to investigate the physical processes operating in some of the most energetic environments in the universe.

His work connects high-resolution radio observations with complementary observations at other wavelengths to better understand jet structure, emission mechanisms, variability, and the relationship between black-hole activity and galactic environments.

FEATURED RESEARCH

Probing the High-Energy Component

Multiwavelength observations of extragalactic jets provide a way to investigate the origin of their high-energy emission.

One line of investigation considers synchrotron radiation from highly energetic electrons, while another considers inverse-Compton scattering of photons from the cosmic microwave background.
